Inclusive Society For Mothers

What makes a society inclusive? What is inclusive? There had been a lot of talk about DEI, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion mostly for the working society in a bid to make working look good. That’s my personal opinion. However, not all companies are embracing the DEI portion for various reasons.

From a mother’s point of view and in this century whereby everything has been inflated to more than what it was in the 1950s, a dual income family with no kids (DINK) may have difficulties in maintaining a home depending on where they live.

As a mother, I have had problems when the kids were still in their infant stage due to the high cost of sending the kids to infant care. To think that my country is promoting to have more babies but the birth rate is still falling due to various reasons. Some couples feel that they want to have a home that will just have their pets, some want to have the home to themselves without the children and others may have fertility issues.

When my kids were young, they would obviously face the health issues like Hand Foot Mouth Disease, common cold due to their interactions school and childcare. That would mean a lot of leaves and childcare leaves that are always not enough to care for the children. The way that childcare leaves are being given is really not attractive as the childcare leaves are based on the youngest child’s age and only up to the age of 7 and shared between the limited childcare leaves with medical leave and without.

I have always questioned myself why are the childcare leaves that way when children tend to get sick often. Not for the lack of getting the children to take supplements. Do we really not need the childcare leaves? The parenthood journey is a marathon that is long for at least 20 years. Why would the childcare leaves be that limited for only 7 years and not until they have reached the age of 15 or 16 when they have completed secondary school?

Why are the childcare leaves not given based on the number of children? Are we really able to be inclusive in the workplace for working mothers? Sure, there are some companies being compassionate to working mothers with their flexible arrangements, however, are there enough roles for mothers to work in in the first place?

All the talk about being inclusive is useless when the majority of the companies are not opening up roles for working mothers.
